Boys & Girls

What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy-dogs' tails,
That's what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice, and everything nice,
That's what little girls are made.

After having David some people have asked me if I've noticed a difference between raising girls and boys. My response use to be "Well it's fun to add a little blue and green to the sea of pink and purple." While that part is fun, there have been some big surprises in the past few months with my little boy! I decided to make a list of the top ten differences I've noticed.

1. Smell- My girls have always smelled pretty nice to me. David smells nice for about an hour after his bath. At this point some funky little aroma sets in!

2. Sleep- My girls love to snuggle and sleep with us. David on the other loves to snuggle, but NOT when he wants to sleep. If we put him in our bed he sits and crawls all over us growling like a little bob cat!

3. Bath- My girls have always just sat and played with their toys and splashed lightly. David is a little wild man! He has to pull every toy and bottle off the shelf and into the water. Once everything is in the water he has to throw it all onto the floor. He also splashes the water wildly all over the place.

4. Food- Okay they were all messy eaters as babies. My girls were very picky about what they would eat and never ate very much. David is a little oinker! He really eats all day long, he eats everything and anything.

5. Sound Effects- David can take any object and give it a car sound. This is something my girls never really did.

6. Clothes- Girls clothes are always coordinated into little outfits. They have matching shoes, hair bows, jewelry, purses, etc... David for the most part has two drawers, one for shirts and one for pants. They can be mixed and matched in any way.

7. Stairs- My girls would see a gate up on the stairs and crawl away from it. David crawls to the gate, stands up, laughs, screams, and shakes it until it falls down. He then rushes up the stairs as fast as he can watching for us and laughing the whole way up.

8. Getting Their Needs Met- My girls have always been very demanding about what they want and need. David on the other hand acts very sweet and needy.

9. Bumps & Bruises- David is a little Crazy Man! He is fearless, anything taller than him he either climbs up on it or he pulls it on top of him. I feel terrible the scratch under his eye is from jumping out of our van and falling face first onto the pavement. His face is always covered in bruises, bumps, and scratches. He has had more than the 2 girls combined ever thought of having.

10. Balls vs. Dolls- This is my favorite because it reminds me of the rolls that Heavenly Father has blessed men and women with. We never even owned a ball for the longest time. I realized one day that my girls didn't even know what to do with one. On the other hand David loves balls he will throw anything he can find and make it into a ball. My girls started cradling dolls and rocking them since about 9m. We have more dolls in our house now than we ever have before and David has never even looked at one let alone pick one up and rocked it.

I know every one's kids are different and we all notice different things, but these are the things I've picked up on with my kids. Boys or girls it's plain to see that they are all from Heaven seeing as how they bring so much of it with them!

Great picture of your kids! They definitely look a lot alike. It's so fun having girls and boys. My girls are so 'girly' and my boys are so 'boyish'. I love the differences and you are totally right, each of them brings Heaven to earth-each in their own way!

I love reading your observations...very educational. I have a feeling that our little boy will be much like you described yours! A sweet, energetic little rascal!

I love the picture with the bruise under David's eye and I love your thoughts on boys & girls. It all makes me so excited for our little man to get here (except maybe the aroma thing, bummer!). It's so fun that they each have their own personality and yet there are things that do seem to be stereotypes for a reason. I can't believe David is almost one, make hims top growing!

I loved the comment about sound effects. My sister said the same thing about boys! They can make everything have a sound. It was also funny that you guys didn't own a ball! Your poor husband. I bet he is glad to have a boy now! The kids are so cute! hope you guys are doing well.

I love this site. I can't wait to open it up and see new pictures. The kids grow up so fast and this is one way we can keep up with them since we can't be there. I love you all,
mom Waite

I love this! While I was reading your list of observations, I was thinking "wow, is that what girls are really like?"
:)
Sorry, if this posts twice. It didn't save the first time.
